Time Warner Cable has launched an educational campaign titled “Enterate Y Conectate/Get Informed, Stay Connected” to help its Hispanic customers with the upcoming transition to digital television. The company has stated that it hopes to be able to prepare all its customers for the transition by February 17, 2009. With the recent law passed by congress, however, delaying the change until June 12, it allows the company a little more time to educate its viewers.
Stephen Pagano, Executive Vice President for Time Warner Cable West Region stated, “We know there's a lot of information on DTV and it can be overwhelming. At Time Warner Cable, we want to provide straight answers to consumers' questions to help make the process easier to understand. The DTV transition will affect everyone and we realize that there are many households still unclear about the digital transition. Our campaign will help prepare the community and help them make an informed decision that will benefit their families."
Time Warner came up with the campaign after recent surveys revealed that ethic groups, especially African Americans and Hispanic Americans, would be at the most risk of having their service disrupted after the transition deadline. People included in these demographics will also be informed by public service announcements, which will consist of discussions from Hispanic and African American legislators.
Throughout the southern California area, Time Warner will provide bilingual community forums, at no cost to viewers. Jose Ulloa, the “Latino Cyberguy” has been named the Ambassador in support of the campaign and will be a force in educating the people about the transition.
Even though many of its customers in the LA region have their TVs connected to Time Warner service, the company says that they are not prepared for the digital switch. Time Warner is confident that the questions and concerns of consumers about the DTV transition will be answered with the campaign.
